About
Hey there! Punksoc is Warwick Uni’s premier music society for lovers of punk, ska, emo and hardcore. Below is a little of what we’re about and what we do:
On Campus Events
We love the bubble here at Punksoc, so much so that we have loads of events lined up throughout the year on campus as well as off. Obviously we just “love” the “music” played in the union but we also think that there’s nothing better than a good punk rock singalong. As such not only will we be running punk club nights on campus, we’ll also be looking into hosting live bands and don’t worry we won’t be booking Scouting For Girls; we leave that to the union.
Off-Campus Events
Sometimes it’s nice to get outside the bubble so every term we’ll be putting on our premier club night: No Logo, which features the very best up and coming punk acts from across the country as well as the best of the local scene. In between acts we also have barnstorming sets from our resident Punksoc DJs making for the perfect antidote to the cheese of the union. At the end of term 3 we team up with all the other music societies at Warwick to bring you the best night of the year: the infamous Last Exit. Last Exit is held at Kasbah (Colly...) in Coventry and involves live bands, live DJs and lots and lots of beer.
Socials
We’re a social bunch of people at Punksoc and we love nothing more than sitting around in the Graduate with a few beers just taking it easy. Those are not the only socials we’ll be having however. Crash is the union’s top alternative club night, it’s also their only alternative club night so we have to make the most of it. It happens three times a term and we’ll be meeting up for some pre-drinks before every single one so if you’re stuck for somebody to party with just come along and join us. We’ll also be venturing off campus; mainly to Leamington Spa where we’ll be running pub crawls, holding meals out and going to see local bands as well as separating the men/women from the boys/girls with our legendary Punksoc bowling trips.
Gigs
We can’t get enough of live music and we venture all over the country to find it. Ok so we go to Birmingham but still if you’re stuck for somebody to go and see your favourite punk band with chances are we’ll be going. Check our gigs page on the website for upcoming gigs, and if you know of one not up there just let us know and we’ll sort out a trip. Having said that you may struggle to find takers for Panic At The Disco but there’s no harm in trying.
Thanks
Special thanks to Andy Dyton (innovatedesign.co.uk) for designing the PunkSoc logo, Dan for starting up the society, all of the old exec members and of course the regulars for always being there at our events and supporting the society.
